Rachel Wheeler

Who am I?

I have been working as a health professional for the past seventeen years, mainly focusing on women’s health. I started attending my friends’ and clients’ labours to provide them with support. After the pregnancy and birth of my first son I realised that my calling and particular interest in women’s health was in and around the childbearing year, and this was where my future and continuing career lay.

I trained for two years with the Active Birth Teacher’s Association under Lolly Stirk, Yvonne Moore and Janet Balaskas. I continue to expand and update my knowledge through professional development and membership of Yoga Birth and Active Birth Associations. I run and attend regular study days for midwives and other health professionals. I continue my own personal yoga development through regular practise and attending classes with other teachers. I work closely with other antenatal teachers, yoga teachers, midwives, physiotherapists, health visitors, doctors and complementary therapists.

I have been teaching in Bath since 1997, and as my children have grown older I have been able to get increasingly involved with my practice and expanding what I can offer to the extent of now having a wonderful colleague, Clare Norrie who teaches the tuesday class and buys the biscuits.  I am passionately committed to what I do, and continue to enjoy and feel honoured to share in such a special time in women’s lives.

At present I am fulfilling my long term ambition of midwifery training which I am really excited about and happy to be able to combine with the work I love.   I look forward to qualifying as a midwife in the Autumn of 2008.
